The Sui Foundation is doubling down on its global expansion strategy with the official launch of SuiHub Athens, a dedicated innovation and collaboration space in the heart of Greece’s capital. The move signals Sui’s long-term commitment to building local tech ecosystems and strengthening blockchain’s role in Europe’s digital future.
Why Greece? A Calculated Strategic Move
Choosing Athens wasn’t a coincidence. Greece has quietly emerged as a regional tech powerhouse, thanks to its strong academic institutions, a growing pool of skilled engineers, and a thriving startup scene. With strengths in fields like artificial intelligence, data science, and software development, Greece offers fertile ground for blockchain innovation.
Sui Blockchain has already laid early foundations in the region, notably by introducing a “Blockchain and Business Innovation” course for high school students — a move that reflects the Foundation’s focus on early talent cultivation and community education.
Partnering with the Athens Exchange Group
A key milestone in Sui’s Greek journey is its partnership with the Athens Exchange Group (ATHEX) — the country’s national stock exchange. Together, they’ve worked to upgrade ATHEX’s Electronic Book Building platform using blockchain technology.
This marks the first-ever collaboration between a national exchange and a Layer 1 blockchain, demonstrating both the technical capabilities of the Sui network and its potential to bring real-world impact to legacy financial systems.
Deep Local Ties: A Greek Story at Its Core
Sui’s connection to Greece runs deeper than partnerships and programs. Two of Mysten Labs’ co-founders — Kostas Chalkias and George Danezis — are of Greek origin, and a significant part of Sui’s Global Solutions Engineering team operates from Greece. That team has already supported over 40 projects within Sui’s broader global ecosystem.
Inside SuiHub Athens
Located in a beautifully restored neoclassical building, SuiHub Athens fuses Greece’s rich cultural history with a vision for digital transformation. The hub is designed to be more than just an office — it’s a creative and collaborative space where developers, entrepreneurs, and innovators can come together to build the next generation of blockchain solutions.

From developer meetups and workshops to office hours and community-driven events, the hub will serve as a resource center for both newcomers and experienced builders alike. Developers will gain hands-on access to tools like Sui’s object-centric architecture and the Move programming language, empowering them to build scalable, secure applications on the Sui Network.

“The global response to Sui has been remarkable,” said Christian Thompson, Managing Director at the Sui Foundation. “With SuiHub Athens, we’re excited to tap into the local energy and talent that Greece has to offer. This hub will be instrumental in pushing the boundaries of blockchain innovation across Europe.”
What’s Next for SuiHub Athens
Looking ahead, SuiHub Athens will host a robust schedule of events aimed at bridging ties with academic institutions, developer communities, and ecosystem partners throughout Europe. The goal is to position Athens as a strategic node in Sui’s global infrastructure, fueling growth, fostering innovation, and strengthening the European blockchain movement.
