Sui Foundation Partners with Blockaid for Security Boost

Blockaid joins Sui to protect wallets and fight threats as the network grows beyond 67M accounts and $1B in total value locked.
Sui Foundation Teams Up with Blockaid to Strengthen Network Security
In a decisive move to bolster the security of its growing ecosystem, the Sui Foundation has partnered with Blockaid, a leading Web3 security firm. This collaboration aims to enhance wallet protection, mitigate smart contract exploits, and address off-chain risks across the Sui network.
Launched in May 2023, Sui is a high-performance layer-1 blockchain built for scalability and speed. Developed using the Move programming language, Sui was designed to minimize the kinds of vulnerabilities that plague traditional smart contract platforms. However, even with Move’s inherent advantages, protocol-level threats and user-targeted exploits remain ongoing concerns.
Through this partnership, Blockaid will provide comprehensive security solutions for the Sui ecosystem, including threat monitoring, real-time responses to suspicious contract behavior, and proactive defense mechanisms for users interacting with decentralized applications (dApps) on Sui.
Security in the Spotlight
The timing of this partnership follows a string of recent incidents. On January 26, blockchain investigator ZachXBT reported a significant attack that drained $29 million from a Sui user’s wallet. The attacker reportedly used Tornado Cash to obscure the stolen funds, highlighting the need for enhanced forensic and preventative tools.
Moreover, the limited functionality of Sui's blockchain explorer and analytics tools was cited as a key challenge in tracking the exploit. This is not the first time the Sui Foundation has taken action in response to threats—back in June 2023, a $500,000 bounty was awarded to CertiK for identifying a critical network vulnerability.
A Rising Network with a Growing Attack Surface
Despite security concerns, Sui’s adoption continues to climb. By early 2024, the network had surpassed 67.3 million accounts, and as of March 11, it held $1.1 billion in total value locked (TVL), according to DefiLlama. While this marked a drop from its $2 billion TVL in early January, Sui remains one of the most prominent new ecosystems in the blockchain space.
Blockaid’s involvement is a notable endorsement of the network’s significance. The security firm, fresh off a $50 million Series B funding round in February 2025, is also known for safeguarding major Web3 platforms including Stellar, Avalanche, Coinbase, and more recently, Backpack—a collaboration that helped avert $26.6 million in potential DeFi losses on Solana.
Move Language: A Strong Foundation, But Not a Silver Bullet
Security firm SlowMist, in a comprehensive report from September 2024, acknowledged the benefits of Sui’s Move language, which helps mitigate many traditional smart contract vulnerabilities. However, the firm emphasized the continued need for smart contract audits and careful attention to business logic, especially around permission settings, token usage, and object management.
“Compared to other blockchain platforms, the Move language excels at preventing common smart contract vulnerabilities,” SlowMist noted. “But developers must still remain vigilant about logic errors and design flaws that could lead to asset loss.”
Even the Sui Foundation recognizes that despite Move’s built-in safety features, the network is not immune to broader protocol-level threats, including timestamp dependencies, insecure randomness, gas limit manipulation, and other advanced attack vectors.
Conclusion
As the Sui ecosystem scales, so too does the complexity and sophistication of potential threats. The Sui Foundation’s collaboration with Blockaid signals a proactive commitment to ecosystem resilience—ensuring that both developers and users can build and transact on Sui with greater confidence. With security at the forefront, Sui is taking another step toward becoming a foundational player in the next generation of decentralized infrastructure.
