Overtake Marketplace Launches on Sui Blockchain

South Korea’s Overtake launches a P2P game-item marketplace on Sui, with escrow, TakeShop, fiat and crypto payments, and AI ambitions.

South Korean digital-item marketplace Overtake has officially launched a blockchain-powered version of its platform built on Sui Blockchain, aiming to modernize in-game asset trading by combining Web2 user experience with on-chain settlement.

A New Chapter for Game Item Trading

Overtake’s new iteration is designed to bridge the gap between traditional gaming economies and blockchain-native assets. At its public launch, the platform supports trading for select PC titles — including Path of Exile 1 (or 2, depending on listing updates), Last Epoch, and MapleLand.

Key to its seller offering is TakeShop, Overtake’s marketplace builder. With TakeShop, users can create storefronts to sell digital items, configure promotions or reward schemes, and accept a broad range of payment options—from stablecoins like USDC to fiat-style options such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Meanwhile, Overtake’s native TAKE token acts as an incentive layer: users are rewarded for platform participation and may stake $TAKE for further yield.

Under the Hood: Escrow, Costs & Security

One of Overtake’s foundational design elements is a multisignature escrow scheme. Its implementation uses a “two-of-three keys” model: the buyer, seller, and Overtake each hold a private key, and a transaction resolves only when two of the three approve. This approach helps reduce counterparty risk, disputes, and fraud potential.

By shifting settlement on-chain via Sui, Overtake claims it can cut transaction fees by more than 50 % compared to many Web2 intermediated solutions.

Sui’s technical architecture — featuring fast finality and high throughput — is a strategic choice for Overtake, especially as trading volume and concurrency scale upward.

Roadmap & AI Integration

Beyond its initial launch, Overtake plans to integrate AI agents into its marketplace. These agents are expected to help with tasks such as:

  • Enhancing liquidity between buyers and sellers
  • Aiding in price discovery and valuation of in-game items
  • Automating certain listing or matching behaviors

Such automation may reduce friction in dynamic markets and help smaller sellers compete more fairly.

Additionally, Overtake intends to broaden beyond purely gaming assets — eventually supporting digital goods, content, or hybrid Web2/Web3 items — while expanding its payment infrastructure more deeply into fiat integrations.

Strategic Implications for the Sui Ecosystem

Overtake’s launch contributes meaningfully to Sui’s positioning as a gaming-optimized chain. Because in-game assets often require rapid, low-cost settlement, chains that can offer those characteristics are better suited to host gaming marketplaces.

Moreover, by offering Web2-friendly payments and storefronts, Overtake may serve as a bridge for non-crypto-native users to enter the Sui ecosystem — lowering onboarding friction and expanding the user base within the chain.

From an ecosystem perspective, success will depend not only on technical execution but also on:

  • The breadth and depth of game integrations
  • Reliability, security, and dispute resolution in practice
  • The ability to scale and maintain low latency under load
  • Tokenomics alignment to keep incentives sustainable

If Overtake can deliver a compelling user experience with robust liquidity and low friction, it could become a reference point in how blockchain can meaningfully enhance digital item markets beyond speculation.
